12 days of blogging: Day 1- White Christmas (1954)

"I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know"

I watched this film with my dad to get into the Christmas swing of things because nothing starts off Christmas better than a Bing Crosby musical. I really enjoy a good musical (but then who doesn't) so this was a royal treat and a great way to start the 12 days of Christmas posts. The films stars Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Vera-Ellen and Rosemary Clooney.

Synopsis
Bob Wallace (Bing Crosby) and Phil Davis (Danny Kaye) have teamed up as a song-and-dance act after leaving the army, They meet up with two girls Betty and Judy Haynes (Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen) a sister song-and-dance act. After a bit of a mix-up Bob and Phil follow Betty and Judy to a log cabin in Vermont at which they are performing. When the boys get their they find out that their former commander, General Waverly, is the owner of the lodge. The cabin is in trouble of shutting down so the boys call in all of the other soldiers from General Waverly's unit to help. In-between this a series of romantic mix-ups ensue ending in a big song and dance number.

White Christmas became the top grossing film of 1954 and it isn't hard to see why, with all of the luscious sets and extravagant dance numbers and a revival of the song "White Christmas". Originally it was a vehicle to reunite Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby because f the success from "Holiday Inn" but with Fred being retired at the time he said no. This film was also Paramount's first film in VistaVision, cool fact aint it.

This has to be one of my personal best Christmas films as its just so colourful and festive and has some lovely acting by lovely actors. You just have to watch this film at Christmas it will really get you singing and dancing for the big day.
