Let's get down to some facts:
- Orson Welles said it was his favourite movie ever.
- Chaplin made the film during the sound era and was pressured to make it a talking production but thankfully he refused.
- It took 3 years to make though they were only shooting for 180 days.
- Albert Einstein and George Bernard Shaw were at the films opening.
- Chaplin wanted his Star from the gold rush to be his love interest in the film and even fired Virginia Cherill after a fight and then tried to get Georgia Hale but had to rehire Cherill for double her salary as most of the film had already been shot.
- Winston Churchill visited the set and Chaplin took a break to make a short film with him.
- The ending was the inspiration for Woody Allen's Manhattan ending.
- One shot had to be filmed 342 times as Chaplin couldn't find the right way to show that the blind girl thought that the tramp was wealthy.
- Directed by Charles Chaplin.
- Is absolutely AMAZING.

general plot
A tramp falls for a blind girl who believes that he is wealthy. With the help of an on and off relationship with a wealthy man the tramp tries to earn enough money to pay for the blind girls operation to gain back her sight.

I rate City Lights 9.1 out of 10!!!
